Prom

Devon loves Sam. But Sam doesn't know anything about Devon's feelings for him. Devon gets hurt when Sam dated different girls. Second year highschool, Sam dated a girl named Tippy. Then he dated another named Patricia . And Yen after that. But never Devon. He always sees Devon as a sister. A friend. One of the boys. But never more than that.

Then senior prom came. Sam asked a girl named Coleen. And Devon just hide her feelings. She went to the school's rooftop and cried. She didn't notice that a guy was watching her. The guy approached her and he handed her his handkerchief. The guy is James, Devon's classmate. He's one of the populars. A jock. And Sam's bestfriend. "Thank you," Devon murmured. "I know how you feel...." James said to her. "Huh?" she replied. "The feeling that someone you love loves somebody else," he said. He knows about Devon's feelings toward Sam. "You gonna attend the prom tomorrow?" James asked Devon. "No. I'm not planning to suck at the corner and watch Sam and Coleen having fun," Devon replied bitterly. "You should come. And you don't have to watch them. You should dance and have some fun. We'll never be seniors again," James said. "I don't have a date," Devon reasoned. "Me neither. Tell you what, I will be your date. We will have fun and dance the night away. Maybe you'll forget about them then," James said, smiling. "And maybe you'll forget about that girl. Sure, I'll come," Devon said. "Yeah, right...." James whispered. Devon didn't heard him.

At the night of the prom, James waited at the bottom of the stairs at Devon's house. He already talked with her parents about her curfew and all. They are also waiting, cameras at hand. Then finally Devon came down.

"Wow," James was left breathless. Devon smiled at him. Her parents took pictures of them together.

At the prom, everybody was dancing. That was until James and Devon arrived. The guys are staring at Devon, full of admiration. The girls are glaring at devon, green with envy. She is simply the most glamorous, graceful and beautiful girl in the room. Devon saw Sam and Coleen dancing. James held her hand and squeezed it. She looked at him. He smiled at her. "Let's dance beautiful," he said. She smiled and went at the dancefloor with him. She felt at ease with James even though they were not close before. James wrapped his hands at Devon's waist and Devon placed her hands on James' shoulder. "So, who's that girl you talked about last night?" Devon asked James. "Secret," he said. "That's unfair," Devon said, pouting. James laughed. "No, it's not. You were too obvious that's why I found out," James said. "Promise you will tell me about it when you're ready," Devon said. James just nodded. They laughed and joked all night. Devon didn't even thought about Sam.

James and Devon remained close after the dance. Many people thought that they're dating because they're always seen together, laughing, joking and flirting a bit. They even hold hands in public at times. But James never mentioned who the mystery girl is. One day James asked Devon to come with him to the rooftop. They sat at the exact place where they talked before. "I want to tell you something," James said nervously. "Shoot," Devon said, smiling. "I like you Devon. Will you be my girlfriend?" James said at a fast pace because he's nervous. But Devon understood him. "I promised before that I will tell you one day the identity of the girl that I love but she don't notice me because she loved somebody else. And that girl is you Devon," he said. She didn't replied. James thought that Devon don't like him that way. He was about to leave when Devon hugged him and said, "Yes."

And that's how the story goes. And yes, they lived happily ever after. THE END
